Light Wood: Tree

The two Light Wood pieces were made in Santa Fe. When I arrived there one of the first things I noticed was the smell of burning pinon pine, which is the local wood of choice for fueling traditional kiva fireplaces. I set out on various hikes to look for some of these small scrubby trees, thinking that the recent beetle infestation would make it easy to come across a few already-dead specimens. (Whereas they would normally live to be 500+ years old.) No such luck. No pinon to be found except via the yellow pages or off the back of a flatbead truck.

I'm not sure what kind of tree this is, but it's an evergreen I picked up while hiking in Tesuke.
